Student progress at Adirondack Leadership Expeditions is guided by a structured four-phase level system. As described below, each level focuses on specific developmental objectives and builds upon the skills and strengths that the student developed during prior levels.
Level I: Turtle
- Focus on self-care
- Acclimating to life at ALE
- Emphasis on building trust for and with staff
Level II: Bear
- Focus on self-discovery
- Learning how to give and receive constructive & positive feedback
- Getting comfortable with the idea of learning how to re-direct your behaviors
- Working as a team
- Learning how to take accountability for your choices
- Becoming aware of how your choices impact the people around you
- Learning more about your needs and behavioral patterns
- Becoming aware of your emotional triggers
- Reconnecting with self and others
Level III: Wolf
- Learning the basic tools of leadership through modeling, teaching, and supporting
- Beginning to re-direct yourself (versus relying on others to help you do this)
- Learning how to get your needs met in healthier ways
- Building trust through integrity and consistency
- Preparing for the future
Level IV: Hawk
- Re-directing one’s own behaviors
- Being able to tie past to present (“connecting the dots”) to promote healthier decision-making
- Planning for the future
- Reconnecting with Family
- Mentoring and teaching newer group members
